Fun Bithday

So today was my b-day celebration... well technically last night.

All I wanted was something low-key. I didn't want to plan, I didn't want to call people, and I didn't want a hassle. To tell you the truth, I was ready to call the whole thing off this morning... But I had told people there would be a thing. So, I had to put together a thing.

I t worked out okay for the most part. If it weren't for my fucking sister... again... For those of you who don't know. Neither of my sisters can handle their alcohol. It seems like every time they drink anything, they drink until they are throwing up. I don't understand that. Throwing up is the worst feeling in the world. Anyway, we had a cocktail party that was fun. I, and most of my friends are extremely responsible when drinking... Which is why a cocktail party is no big deal. No one gets so drunk they can't drive home, and if they do, I have plenty of room.

Kim decided to bring guests... three military guys. She is currently passed out on my couch...after throwing up twice... sleeping with a guy that is NOT her boyfriend... and I am watching all three to make sure they don't fuck up my house. One guy is currently throwing up in my sink. Not my idea of a fun laid back night.

I'm so over this. How am I not supposed to be disappointed in her... but it makes ME judgmental when I am. They ruined my bachelorette party doing the same thing. Katie met these guys at a bar... that she is too young to get in to. My house smells like vomit and I'm up at 5 in the morning when I need to be asleep.

Why won't they just pass out already so I can go to sleep?

No hike

Hike called, on account of rain. :(

October 12, 2007

I just wanted to say that I'm really looking forward to a hike on Saturday. It's been SOOO long. I haven't been hiking since Yosemite. I know I'm probably being a little pessimistic here, but I really think something is gonna come up to prevent me from going. Let's hope not.

In other news. I got a kitten last Sunday. It's been 4 days and still isn't going great. It's getting better every day, but I'm a little afraid it won't work out. Which would totally suck 'cause I'd have to give the little guy up. It's not even just that ... really. The whole reason I decided to get him was in the hopes that he could be a playmate for Aude. She's been really needy lately and wants to play CONSTANTLY. Evan (the kitten) is shaping up to be about as playful... if only Aude would accept him.

Well, I voulenteered to go in an hour early for work tomorrow (overtime is great) so I'd better get off to bed!

The deer

Ok, so the saddest thing happened last night at work. I work on the edge of a canyon basically... well like 5 businesses down from the trailhead. The road that runs in front of my work is a 50 mph zone, which means everyone is going at least 60. Well, somehow this deer managed to find its way out of the canyon and into our parking lot. Well, I'm not sure how the deer got there exactly, but it must have found it's way in along the street. So now it's trapped. It can see the lovely hill that is it's home at the end of the lot, but there is a chain link fence blocking it in. This deer wanted home so bad that it was literally throwing itself into the fence over and over. It tried jumping over the fence, but it was about 2 feet too high for it. We tried to find a gap in the fence where we might be able to let it out, we tried lifting up the bottom of the fence, we even tried knocking the fence over, but we couldn't do it.... and the deer wandered back out into the traffic. All I can hope is that somehow the deer managed to wander back home. Somehow I doubt it... it was wandering toward the freeway.

It just reminded me again of how sad and desperate our situation is on this planet. Humans are destroying the world, and most of them either don't see it or don't care. Most of those that do care either think the task of fixing it is too large and don't bother trying to help. Yes, the task is a large one. However, you can't be held responsible for the actions of others... but you are responsible for your own. So, the next time that you drink a soda and you think that it might be some trouble to hang on to the can until you can recycle it, remember it is your responsibility. The next time that you want to take a 30 min shower, remember that we live in a desert where fresh water is scarce, we have brought that water here by changing the landscape of the rivers, and in doing so have taken lands that rightly belong to wildlife. Be grateful for what you have been given. If you just get out there, into nature and are reminded of it's beauty, you might be less likely to drive 3 blocks to the fast food place down the street, and maybe walk instead, goodness knows you could probably use the walk if you're eating fast food.

The answer is not in getting everybody to change their lifestyle. The answer is in each individual doing what they can, even if it is an inconvenience.
